My top 5 brekkie places in Sydney

Thinking about my top 5 brekkie places was much tougher than I first thought. It’s an exciting time for Sydney’s eating and drinking scene with new cafes popping up almost every weekend. After careful consideration and a great deal of mouth-watering while casting my mind back to past foodie experiences…here is my top 5 (in no particular order…a top 5 was hard enough…let alone ranking them)!

  1. Sadhana Kitchen
  2. Youeni Foodstore
  3. About Life
  4. Earth to Table
  5. Bondi Wholefoods

Earth to Table

earth-tableWho said you can’t have cake for breakfast?! Trust me it would be hard to pass up after seeing what Earth to Table has to offer! Think snickers, caramel slice, tiramisu, mango cheesecake, apple berry crumble, banana bread, and icecream, but all 100% vegan, 100% raw, and 100% guilt free! These cakes are gluten and dairy free which is a bonus for those with food intolerances.

Earth to Table is a raw, vegan, gluten free cafe located in Bondi Junction. In addition to their delicious desserts, Earth to Table has a variety of breakfast options ranging from the breakfast parfait, ‘grawnola’ with coconut yoghurt, acai bowls, mushroom stacks and quiches. Their drinks menu is equally as impressive with superfood smoothies, almond mylk lattes, raw cacao mochas, green juices, chai teas and also interesting tonics.

I can’t help but notice the increasing hype and craze over raw and organic food, and this cafe is surely a front-runner. I am still amazed every time I visit by how talented these chefs are to be able create such colourful, full-of-flavour dishes…without any cooking involved!

I visit Earth to Table often and I am yet to be disappointed.

About Life

about-lifeI think it’s safe to say that About Life certainly is a winner for the health conscious out there, not only offering an array of dishes promoting healthy eating, but also doubling as a small supermarket for all your organic grocery needs.

As a health food hub, the breakfast menu serves dishes to satisfy all taste buds and diets. The menu offers a great range from the classic bacon and eggs to scrambled tofu, avocado on toast, omelettes, sweet potato hashbrown, coconut quinoa porridge and raspberry chia pikelets. Their menu also has quite an extensive drinks list filled with delicious teas, coffee, juices, protein and superfood smoothies and herbal tonics.

Something I love and what sets About Life apart from other cafes is the ‘self serve’ buffet which allows you to pay for a certain container size and fill it will as many dishes as you like. This works out to be extremely cost effective and allows you to eat take away, ‘fast food’ minus the guilt!

About Life conveniently have cafes in a number of locations across Sydney. The vibe at each of the stores is great, particularly on weekend mornings where you will find people having breakfast after their active mornings out and about. I highly recommend a visit here!

Recommended dish(es) – Paleo super hash, Egg nourishment bowl,

Address: Double Bay, Surry Hills, Bondi Junction, Cammeray

Youeni Foodstore

youeniLocated in Castle Hill, this gem is a leader in the North Western Sydney cafe scene. Youeni has recently overhauled their menu to include many organic ‘superfood’ options which is definitely attracting the attention of Sydneysiders.

Youeni’s breakfast menu includes something for everyone. From bacon and egg rolls, to buckwheat pancakes and vegan muesli. Their all day breakfast options also mean you don’t have to miss out on a great breakfast if you accidently forgot to set the alarm!! They also serve a delicious range of freshly baked pastries and goodies to eat in or take away.

Weekend mornings are buzzing at this cafe which creates a really nice atmosphere. The cafe serves great coffee and fresh, healthy and generously portioned food. This is a breakfast spot where you will know you will always be served a great meal!

Recommended dish(es) – Baked Mushrooms, Life Extending Bowl (add chicken or poached egg!!), Vegan Toasted Muesli

Address: 250/254 Old Northern Road, Castle Hill

Sadhana Kitchen

sadhanaWhere to start with Sadhana Kitchen…this place just keeps getting better and better! Very rarely will you find a spare table for long and once you have eaten here you will understand why. Sadhana is all about raw vegan food and it is so impressive to see how varied the menu can be under such restrictions.

The food here not only looks, but tastes amazing. For breakfast you can expect to see acai bowls, buckwheat French toast, chia porridge, avocado on toast, and banana crepes to name a few. Aa an added bonus…breakfast is served all day!

The cafe itself is quite small however due to its popular demand, rumour has they are opening a second cafe!

Many cafes in this day and age promote healthy eating, but Sadhana Kitchen is something different. They are the pinnacle of great tasting and exceptionally presented food, that won’t bust another notch on the belt!

Recommended dish(es) – PB & J Acai Bowl, raw cakes (Rocky Road ‘cheezecake’ is my top pick!), the new cocowhip sundaes (salted caramel sundae is to die for!) , Pink Passion Frappe

Address: 147 Enmore Road, Enmore

Bondi Wholefoods

bondi-wholefoodsConveniently located right near Bondi Beach, this whole foods cafe and grocer definitely deserves a spot in my top 5. The cafe itself certainly reflects the laid-back, beachy vibe of Bondi with an outdoor courtyard and lounge chairs to enjoy your food and chat for hours with friends.

Bondi wholefoods is definitely great for those with dietary requirements and offers many options that are vegan, gluten free, dairy free. Their breakfast menu is served until 3pm daily and offers a selection of both sweet and savoury options. From the sweet options such as banana chia loaf, acai breakfast bowl, cacao berry spelt pancakes to savoury options of eggs on toast, salmon & avoacado smash and also their popular shakshuka.

This is a very popular spot especially on weekends however service is great and you don’t have to wait long for food and drinks. I love the vibe here and I don’t think you can beat a summer morning doing a coastal walk and having a big breakfast afterwards to reward yourself!

Recommended dish(es) – Coconut & date oat bircher, shakshuka, acai breakfast bowl

Address: 30a Hastings Parade, North Bondi
