Today we’re talking everything carbs, arguably the most controversial of all the macros… Carbohydrates are a contentious topic in nutrition. A lot of people blame carbs for weight gain and may go so far as to eliminate them from their diet to speed up fat loss. The food industry supports this point of view by manufacturing low carb foods. In many ways this makes a lot of sense. Excess carbs are easily converted into fat and their presence can inhibit fat loss. But, does this mean you should eliminate carbs from your diet? Nope!

We have all been in the position where you’ve had a bit of time off training, you’ve been injured or busy and have been giving your training your all. For some, you are getting into consistent training for the first time ever.

There is a big misconception in the fitness industry at the moment when it comes to “toning”. I receive a lot of questions from girls wanting to lose fat and tone up, but they don’t want to get bulky and build muscle – this always confuses me since it’s difficult to have one without the other. First things first; toning is a combination of losing fat and building lean muscle to improve your muscle definition. However, you also need to realise that fat and muscle have another secret relationship.

Building lean muscle helps you to burn fat as muscle is more metabolically active – this means, the more lean muscle you build, the more fat you’re going to burn! So, now that we’ve united fat loss, toning and building lean muscle, let’s look at how we go about it.

Ditch The Resolutions

7th Jan 2019

So many people out there will have spent the holiday period partying, indulging and basically putting their health and fitness goals on hold. Some of you may have struggled throughout the holidays with temptation and restriction and spent the festive season worrying about derailing your progress. And there is no doubt that a lot of people that managed to achieve silly season balance, enjoying time with friends and family, enjoying being active and enjoying a variety of indulgent and healthy foods.

No matter what category you fall into, we can’t help but use the ringing in of the New Year to act as a reset button. A time where we pause, reflect and vow to turn over a new leaf. But I’m going to be a little bit of an outlier here and suggest you ditch the New Years resolutions…

I can’t believe that 2018 is over! This year has been an absolute whirlwind for Lauren Simpson Fitness, from the moment 2018 kicked off back in January it has been go go go, and I have loved every single LSF moment! I wanted to take a little time to reflect over the highs from my biggest year yet at LSF.

Over the weekend something super exciting went down! My first ever LSF Babes Tour Event launched in my very own city - Sydney, Australia! I have been looking forward to this for so long, and have been planning for even longer, so it was beyond exciting to finally get the opportunity to meet my Sydney #LSFbabes, put them through a killer workout, chat to them about my experiences in health, fitness, and business, and get to give them all hugs and encouragement IN PERSON!!!! Here's my recap of the event.

It takes more than hip thrusts and squats to build a booty.

It takes more than just sit-ups and crunches to get abs.

And it takes more than just overhead pressing to get shapely shoulders!

If you want to build a body you love and are proud of, you will need to train your WHOLE BODY!

Find out the importance of whole body training and how you can implement it into your training schedule!

These days a lot of people talk about carbs the way we used to talk about fat - like they are evil and have been put on this earth to sabotage us! You may know someone that has completely cut carbs out of their diet, or doesn’t eat carbs after dark, or maybe only eats a very small amount of carbs each day (hello keto!). But are carbs really bad for you? The answer is a resounding NO! Today I'm going to talk to you about carb cycling, what it is and why it works!

When you decide to improve your life for the better by eating well, training more and living a healthier lifestyle, most people will get behind you. But in the real world, it’s not always this simple. Many of my clients have barriers that are standing in the way of them becoming the best version of themselves. And unfortunately, sometimes these barriers can come in the form of important people in your life. So, how do you deal them?

One of the fundamental exercises you will see me prescribe to my clients is the squat. It is so important when it comes to shaping your body and is also a key exercise in creating a strong base of support for everyday movements.
