Who else is looking for the perfect V-Day experience this year? Okay, girls, I know that it is stereotypically the male having to put in the work. But we are a group of boss babes, who like to be in control (at all times)! So, instead of waiting for your partner to spoil you with “traditional” gifts of chocolates and flowers. Let’s make it a little more about what you really want… Quality time with your loved one, anddddd working on those gains!

You started a new exciting challenge, prepped all your meals, took the before pictures, trained hard and began the first week off with a bang. Sounds familiar, right? The second week of the challenge comes… You didn’t do your meal prep, had a bad night's sleep, cake at work, and even skipped your Monday workout. Disaster.

Today we’re talking everything carbs, arguably the most controversial of all the macros… Carbohydrates are a contentious topic in nutrition. A lot of people blame carbs for weight gain and may go so far as to eliminate them from their diet to speed up fat loss. The food industry supports this point of view by manufacturing low carb foods. In many ways this makes a lot of sense. Excess carbs are easily converted into fat and their presence can inhibit fat loss. But, does this mean you should eliminate carbs from your diet? Nope!

We have all been in the position where you’ve had a bit of time off training, you’ve been injured or busy and have been giving your training your all. For some, you are getting into consistent training for the first time ever.

There is a big misconception in the fitness industry at the moment when it comes to “toning”. I receive a lot of questions from girls wanting to lose fat and tone up, but they don’t want to get bulky and build muscle – this always confuses me since it’s difficult to have one without the other. First things first; toning is a combination of losing fat and building lean muscle to improve your muscle definition. However, you also need to realise that fat and muscle have another secret relationship.

Building lean muscle helps you to burn fat as muscle is more metabolically active – this means, the more lean muscle you build, the more fat you’re going to burn! So, now that we’ve united fat loss, toning and building lean muscle, let’s look at how we go about it.

Ditch The Resolutions

So many people out there will have spent the holiday period partying, indulging and basically putting their health and fitness goals on hold. Some of you may have struggled throughout the holidays with temptation and restriction and spent the festive season worrying about derailing your progress. And there is no doubt that a lot of people that managed to achieve silly season balance, enjoying time with friends and family, enjoying being active and enjoying a variety of indulgent and healthy foods.

No matter what category you fall into, we can’t help but use the ringing in of the New Year to act as a reset button. A time where we pause, reflect and vow to turn over a new leaf. But I’m going to be a little bit of an outlier here and suggest you ditch the New Years resolutions…
